Why do Homeopaths ask SOOOOO many questions?

Homeopathy looks for a remedy that has similar symptoms to your symptom picture. Similar similibus curantur or like cures like (let like be cured by like).
When a homeopath sits with a patient we are looking to see the totality of your symptom picture so we can match it to an appropriate remedy. To do this we need to understand all of you. Think of it as starting with your head and working all the way down your body and checking in with all of your body systems. This includes mental, emotional and spiritual being as well.
Most of us have gone to see a traditional doctor and these visits are very localized and specific to the issue that brought you in. Doctors are looking to diagnose the problem and prescribe a medicine that will encourage your body to remove it. They rarely ask if your back pain has increased your anxiety because often in their view they don't see them as connected. Homeopaths on the other hand, see all your symptoms as connected and making up the totality of you.
So we may ask a lot of questions to get to understand the totality of your symptoms. We also want to know what the sensations of these symptoms are. For instance, back pain is not a useful symptom, but telling us "I have pain at the small of my back worse for bending backward and made better for heat, worse in the morning, and better after urinating". That's a good symptom!
Seeing a homeopath is very different that seeing a traditional doctor. Visits take longer and we want more information. So forgive us in advance for the many questions you may be asked, we only do so to understand you so we can find the like to cure your like.
